More Than 1 Million Democrats Switched to Republican Over Last Year

More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year, according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. Most of these are suburban voters.

Some of the key takeaways from the vote switchers are:

·         “It’s more so a rejection of the left than embracing the right”

·         “the party “left me behind” in 2020”

·         “The party itself i​s no longer Democrat, it’s progressive socialism,”

Ronna McDaniel, RNC Chair stated, “Biden and Democrats are woefully out of touch with the American people, and that’s why voters are flocking to the Republican Party in droves.”

Well-educated swing voters who voted against Trump appear to be returning to the Republican Party, analysis shows.

This data was examined by AP from data taken from L2 which looked at 1.7 million voters across 42 states which had likely switched votes.

This data was reported in June 2022, so in this rapidly changing news cycle there is the possibility the data could have changed by the more recent November 2022 election.

The author of the pbs story states that this should be a dire warning for Democrats.

The Democratic National Committee declined to comment​ about the shift in voter affiliations.​

 

In order to look at the other side of the coin, I attempted to obtain a Democratic party response by searching Google and the party website Press Releases but was unsuccessful in finding one.

Student Loan Forgiveness vs PPP Loan – Fair Comparison?

On Thursday, August 25 on Twitter, the White House called out the hypocrisy of six Republican Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) recipients who had criticized President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program as being unfair to other borrowers and taxpayers. The Student Loan Forgiveness Program would forgive up to $20,000 to PELL Grant recipients and up to $10,000 to borrowers who make less than $125,000 per year along with a pause in payments through the end of the year. The PPP was part of the CARES package intended to help businesses during the COVID-19 lockdown by keeping their people employed and to keep their business from shuttering. Two significant differences in the two programs are that PPP loans were intended to be forgiven if they met the terms of the agreement - they kept the employees - and the PPP loans were approved by Congress. Does Chicago Have a Crime Problem?

It was reported in the New York Post that the CEO of McDonald’s warned of crime in Chicago when he recently spoke at a meeting of business leaders. Chicago has been headquarters to McDonald’s since 2018 after having relocated from nearby Oak Brook. The CEO, Chris Kempczinski , told the Economic Club of Chicago business leaders that the company is having trouble getting employees back to work downtown due to fears over a surge in crime. They are hesitant to ride mass transit because of a significant increase in violent crime. He added that quality of life concerns have prevented recruiting additional employees to the city. He stated, “There is a general sense out there that our city is in crisis.” Kempczinski  stated that McDonald's plans to stay in Chicago, but urged city leaders to take note of other big corporations leaving the city due to the same concerns.
